One Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Needs Some Help

I'm assuming that someone looked at this before it was put on the air . . .

We have four people running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. It's the seat that current Senator Ben Nelson holds. Nelson announced at the end of December that he will not be seeking re-election.

The four Republicans running are Attorney General Jon Bruning; State Senator Deb Fisher; Pat Flynn and State Treasurer Don Stenberg.

I have to be honest, I was stunned by the political ad that Stenberg has running on television. It shows him reading a speech.

Seriously?

I know I'm being hard on him but Republicans can not take this seat for granted and that's exactly what this product that Stenberg's campaign(through a PAC in Washington) has put out.

I can not believe any candidate, expecially one that has been involved in Nebraska politics as long as Stenberg has, can not stand before voters and talk about his core belief without a prepared speech in front of him.

Stenberg's people better up their game in the coming months because folks aren't looking for a tired old politician who can not explain eye-to-eye what he or she really is all about.

Nebraska's Governor Proposes Cutting Your Taxes

The Nebraska Unicameral is back in session at the State Capitol in Lincoln. 

Governor Dave Heineman will be sending them a proposal that will cut taxes for Nebraskans.

The Omaha World-Herald on-line reports that the Governor's cuts include:

"a married couple with two kids whose adjusted gross income was $75,000 would see a $255 decrease, about an 11 percent reduction. A similar couple with $100,000 in income would see a $290 savings, a 7 percent cut"

"plan would also reduce Nebraska's relatively high corporate income taxes and eliminate the state's last inheritance tax, one that is paid to counties. The state estate tax was eliminated in 2007."

Great News for Wahoo

gives hope to those outside Omaha . . .

Wahoo is the new site for an Omaha area company's expansion plans. According to the Wahoo Newspaper on-line, Omaha Steel Castings will be opening a plant location in Wahoo to meet increasing customer demand.

The owner of Omaha Steel is quoted in the newspaper as estimating 125-150 new hires once the Wahoo facility is open.

Winter? Uhhhh . . .

cycles come and go and that's just how nature is . . .

We had some really cold weather in early December but since then, it's been like spring time around here.

Well, mother nature may finally be signaling that cold weather has returned. As seen in this morning's Omaha World-Herald on-line:

"The evening commute might be one of those white-knuckle affairs.

Gusty winds and snow flurries will buffett drivers and could make visibility a problem.

The winds, coming out of the northwest, will be hardest on east-west drivers, such as those commuting between Omaha and Lincoln, said Cathy Zapotocny, meteorologist for the regional National Weather Service office.

Winds started kicking up Wednesday morning, and will just get stronger as the day wears on, she said. At about 10 a.m., gusts were nearing 30 mph.

The National Weather Service forecasts gusts could reach 45-plus mph Wednesday. Temperatures are projected to fall during the day. The greatest likelihood of flurries is between noon and 3 p.m.

A wind advisory extends until 6 p.m. Zapotocny said meteorologists will evaluate later in the afternoon whether to extend the advisory into early evening.

The cold, windy weather is forecast to last into Friday. Weekend temperatures are forecast to return to the upper 30s and low 40s."

Oh well, it's Nebraska, you knew it wouldn't stay 60 forever . . . one can always dream of course . . .
