Has 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Lost All Sense of Reality?

who needs stinking oil? oh, right, we do . . .

It so reassuring to know that we have a President who lives in Never-Never Land, where there is income equality and those darn polluters, also know as job creators, have been replaced by Obama's chosen ones who have turned all us over to wind and solar power.

So let me throw a bit of cold water in our collective faces.

Almost all vehicles are powered by some form of petroleum product. In addition, there isn't one living American that doesn't use products each and every day that are petroleum based. And the last time I looked, Air Force One is powered by jet fuel and not wind or solar power. Oh and those ski slopes in Aspen that Mrs. Obama has been skiing down, are maintained by equipment using fossil fuels.

The President recently decided that we don't need the Keystone pipeline. Gosh, we don't want to offend our good Arab friends in the Middle East by reducing our oil dependency and letting them deal with that mess called Iran because we aren't protecting your backside anymore.

And it's so very nice that the President throws billions of our taxpayer dollars down a rat hole on solar and wind energy companies which have business plans that would not pass the muster of any business school in the country, well, maybe Cal-Berkeley but one must remember that they have students living in trees (!) protesting tuition.

So let me leave you with this graph on the price of gasoline.

As you can see, the price of gasoline has doubled since Obama entered 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Boy this Hope and Change is really working out well, isn't is????

 

New York, New York, It's A Wonderful Town

Former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey has decided that maybe he is just a bit fonder of New York City than Nebraska. Kerrey was considering whether to run for the U.S. Senate seat that Ben Nelson is vacating at the end of this year.

The Omaha World-Herald on-line is reporting that Kerrey has sent an e-mail to the media today stating:

"I have given the decision of becoming a candidate for the U.S. Senate very serious thought and prayer. For many reasons I nearly said yes. In the end I choose to remain a private citizen. To those who urged me to do so, I am sorry, very sorry to have disappointed you. I hope you understand that I have chosen what I believe is best for my family and me."

And so now attention is turning to State Sen. Steve Lathrop of Omaha and University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook, neither well known across Nebraska.

As for Kerrey, I just never quite thought he would do it. He appears way too happy in New York City where he is married and has a young son. After many years of rather uneven and at times overly public and in some instances, just flat out weird relationships, it appears Kerrey may have finally found some calm and normalcy to his personal life.

And so it goes for Democrats in Nebraska. The search continues and we will see where this goes. The bottom line for Democrats is that they really have a very, very short and shallow bench that lacks any statewide name I.D.

News of yet another collapse in a "Green Energy" company into which President Obama dumped millions of our hard earned tax dollars.

William Yeatman writes at Global Warming.org that:

"Earlier this week, Stimulus beneficiary Evergreen Energy bit the dust. Then, Ener1, a manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles and recipient of Stimulus largesse, filed for bankruptcy. And today, the Las Vegas Sun reports that Amonix, Inc., a manufacturer of solar panels that received $5.9 million from the Porkulus, will cut two-thirds of its workforce, about 200 employees, only seven months after opening a factory in Nevada.

I foresaw this spate of bad news last November. As I explained yesterday,

In a previous post, I compared renewable energy spending in the 2009 Stimulus to a green albatross burdening the President. I argued that Stimulus spending was inherently wasteful, because politics invariably corrupts government’s investment decisions. The result is taxpayers losses on bankrupt companies that existed only by the grace of political favoritism, a la Solyndar. I predicted the green stimulus would haunt the President, in the form of a slow drip public relations nightmare, as a litany of bad investments go belly-up in the run up to the 2012 elections.

Mr. President, are you still sure you want to"double down" on renewable energy giveaways?"

The pain of course, is not the President's but ours as we see our tax dollars wasted on investments that were ill conceived and illogical in the first place. After three years, it has become painfully apparent that Mr. Obama's appetite for spending others' money can only come to an end by sending him packing back to Chicago for good.

XL Pipeline Back on Center Stage

Senate and House Republicans are working on ways to get the XL Pipeline project back on track after President Obama bowed to pressure from his leftist nut-case, environmentalist wacko supporters in refusing to approve it.

Nebraska U.S. Senator Mike Johanns has joined 43 other Senators in support of a bill that would allow the pipeline to begin construction in the U.S. while TransCanada and the State of Nebraska work out the new route through the state and around the Sandhills.

Johanns told the Omaha World-Herald's Joseph Morton, "The president gives speeches about energy security and creating jobs, but this legislation would actually do it. Our bill approves the pipeline while allowing Nebraska and TransCanada the time they need to find the right route through our state," Johanns said. "This pipeline is not only a national priority because of the energy and jobs it will bring, it's also a Nebraska priority."

One Democrat currently has signed on to the bill and that's, no not our Democrat Senator Ben Nelson but West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, who unlike Nelson, sees the common sense logic to the pipeline.

Over in the House, Speaker Boehner has said that they will pass this legislation as well but in their case, they are looking at tying it to a piece of legislation that Obama wants such as the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act.

Each year at this time, the President of the United States gives the State of the Union address. So I have to ask, What is the State of our Union?

This pretty much sums up my view:

 

ObamaMotors A Negative Charge To Its Dealers

the Green Energy sham continues at ObamaMotors . . .

It appears that U.S. consumers outside Holywood are just not buying President Obama's new electric cars. An article in Automotive News on-line reports that General Motors dealers across the country are balking at taking any more of Mr. Obama's Volt cars.

Apparently, dealers are having trouble selling the few they already have and don't want to increase their inventory of cars that no one wants. Oh, and then there's the little issue with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's investigation into the risk of fires in the Volt's battery pack.

All of this Washington central planning brings to mind this quote:

No Thank You Mr. President

President Obama has killed the Keystone Pipeline, it was announced today by an administration official. 

In one of the most asinine decision made by this President and god knows there have been some real whoppers, Obama killed the project because he says he didn't have time enough to consider all the ramifications of the project. 

This project has been studied to death Mr. President but apparently your left-wing tree hugging socialist admirers carry more weight with you than thousands upon thousands of parents who need the jobs this pipeline will create.

The Keystone project would have also increased our import of oil from Canada and less on the Middle East. Apparently, Obama prefers to do business with terrorist supporting countries rather than with the Canadians.

Did I say asinine? Well let me say it again . . . asinine.

Deja Vu?

Nebraska Democrats are scrambling to find someone to run for U.S. Senate . . .

Former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey (D) is pondering whether to run for the Senate seat currently held by Ben Nelson.

Senator Nelson told everyone in late December that he will not seek re-election in 2012 and that left Democrats in Nebraska and Washington scrambling to find someone to run in November.

Interestingly enough, the search left Nebraska and headed east, way east to an address in New York City.

It appears that Mr. Kerrey is very interested and I guess the fact that he doesn't live or have a home in Nebraska doesn't seem to matter to Democrats.

He's a warm body with name I.D. in Nebraska and would immediately be a credible challenger for the Republican candidate.

The question for Nebraskans is just who is this version of Bob Kerrey.

Kerrey has always been a bit of a free spirit; kind of a Jerry "Governor Moonbeam" Brown want-a-be. What's interesting is that since he left the U.S. Senate, he has spent his time in New York City, in fact he lives and works in New York City. Now, I love visiting New York City but its leftist political environment is another thing.

You remember that salsa commercial where the cowboy looks at the jar and then he says, "New York City?" in complete disdain and disbelief?

Well, I think Nebraskans may come to say the same thing if Kerrey actually decides to run.

One Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Needs Some Help

I'm assuming that someone looked at this before it was put on the air . . .

We have four people running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. It's the seat that current Senator Ben Nelson holds. Nelson announced at the end of December that he will not be seeking re-election.

The four Republicans running are Attorney General Jon Bruning; State Senator Deb Fisher; Pat Flynn and State Treasurer Don Stenberg.

I have to be honest, I was stunned by the political ad that Stenberg has running on television. It shows him reading a speech.

Reading. 

Seriously?

I know I'm being hard on him but Republicans can not take this seat for granted and that's exactly what this product that Stenberg's campaign(through a PAC in Washington) has put out.

I can not believe any candidate, expecially one that has been involved in Nebraska politics as long as Stenberg has, can not stand before voters and talk about his core belief without a prepared speech in front of him.

Stenberg's people better up their game in the coming months because folks aren't looking for a tired old politician who can not explain eye-to-eye what he or she really is all about.
