Can you believe any of his cost estimates?
Remember how the President keeps saying that Obamacare will
save money? Well, one way he can claim that is if he rigs the system through
his treatment of Medicare and Medicaid. But as you will see, ultimately, this
is all just a big lie and he knows it and that’s what makes this whole
Obamacare discussion so disingenuous.
Back in early June, President Obama outlined how
he was going to save more money in healthcare to help pay for Obamacare. His
outline in a letter to key senators stated that he wanted to cut an additional
$200 billion to $300 billion from Medicare and Medicaid over the next decade,
on top of the $309 billion reduction he had already proposed in the
government's two main healthcare programs for the poor, elderly, and disabled.
Then in his weekly radio and Internet address on June 13th, he said,
". . . [these] savings will ensure that we have nearly $950 billion set aside
to offset the cost of health care reform over the next ten years."
Really . . . well isn’t that just amazing. I wonder why no one else has figured out that if you just cut the amount paid by Medicare and Medicaid, you save money. The dirty little secret that The Anointed One isn’t telling folks is when he slashes the amount paid out by Medicare and Medicaid which in turn slashes the amount paid to doctors and hospitals, guess who picks up the difference?
Insurance companies will make up the difference by passing on the increases to companies during their yearly renew of their insurance coverage which will mean higher employee contributions; higher co-pays; higher prescription co-pays, etc.
So, basically what The Anointed One is doing by slashing Medicaid and Medicare payments is: 1) He gets to make it look like he is some cost cutting tough man; 2) In reality, he is increasing the amount that each of us will pay out of our pocket and he is forcing the private insurance market to be the bad guy in all of this when they increase their customers premiums hence 3) he gets more people looking positively at his national healthcare program.
The Obama Scam
One of the big fat lies that Obama keeps telling everyone is how Obamacare will pay for itself. Can anyone name me a federal program that pays for itself?
Let’s take the current TARP program for example, which was set up just last fall to award $700 billion in bailouts. Well, looky here, in a report soon to be officially released, the government’s top bailout watchdog says, "TARP has evolved into a program of unprecedented scope, scale and complexity. Moreover, TARP does not function in a vacuum but is rather part of the broader government efforts to stabilize the financial system," The report goes to estimate that, "The total potential federal government support could reach up to $23.7 trillion," WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes folks, this is what the Federal Government deems solid math principles? Going from $700 billion to $24.7 TRILLION.
Let me add another example of how completely the Federal Government missed the mark in terms of how much a Federal program will cost. In a 1993 article entitled, The Medicare Monster, authors Steven Hayward and Erik Peterson wrote, “At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee estimated that Medicare would cost only about $12 billion by 1990 (a figure that included an allowance for inflation). This was a supposedly "conservative" estimate. But in 1990 Medicare actually cost $107 billion.”
The Kaiser Family Foundation released a report in May 2009 that stated that total Medicare spending is expected to rise to $511 billion in 2009.
Hey, they were close:
$12 billion estimate vs $107 billion actual cost in 1990
And in just over 40 years, we’ve gone from an initial program cost of $3 billion for Medicare to $511 billion this year.
So my point is this. Does Obama and really anyone in Washington give you any comfort when they say Obamacare will “save money”? That $1.6 trillion price tag for Obamacare, should we have any faith in that figure? If the soon to be released report on TARP is any indication, then the answer is simple, HELL NO!!!!
Boy does Obamacare smell more and more like a scam on the American taxpayer . . .
